Truthful Tuesday

This is my creative space/closet/Kellen's closet/changing table. It is a wonder that I get anything done. And I have to say that Tyler often asks me why I have SO many projects going on at one time.... well, just take a look. Clearly reflective of my chaotic sewing area!
However, I do accomplish things here and there and look forward to sharing more!

Third camping trip of the season

On Friday, we decided to go camping. We headed out of town about 3pm, with the intention of going to a place called Holland Lake. We had heard great things of this place, and wanted to try it out; there were trails and a nice lake and waterfall... sounds nice, right?
Well, we got there and drove the camping loops looking for the perfect campsite. We found it; #9. Then we got out. From the second we opened the car door we were swarmed by bird like mosquitoes! Apparently, they had just hatched with the sudden turn for warmer weather. And they were everywhere! Colton got the worst of it, with huge welts on his temples! So needless to say, we made a quick decision to go to another campground! We drove south for about 45 minutes, and right when we were headed into another campground, Colton asks, "Hey, Daddy. Where is my bike?" For a kid who just learned how to ride, he keeps pretty good tabs on it.
It had been left at campsite #9 in the mad rush for the car (along with our bundle of firewood).
So, I dropped off Tyler and C & A t Lake Alva campground, and Kellen and I went back to mosquito land.
Thankfully, the bike was still there.
Lake Alva turned out to be pretty relaxing. There really aren't trails or much to do in general. So we spent time riding bikes and swimming in the lake.
We even made a "chickmunk" friend.Every time Colton would here a chipmunk noise, he would say "Is that our chickmunk?"
Of course it is!
He also was insistant that the litte guy was playing with his tractors when we weren't around!Love, love, love our camping trips.
I plan to make a camping journal to record the different places we go. Tyler thought of that one!

{WIP} Works in Progress

In my mind, I have a lot of WIP; but in reality, this is the only one! A knitting project at the start of summer! It is a beanbag baby pillow with a knitted top. It will be pretty big, and look just like an oversized pillow, but intended for Kellen to be placed on (don't worry, he won't sink into the bag and suffocate). I just have to get it done before he starts crawling! This thing is taking MUCH more time than I anticipated. Maybe it is because it is usually done with Kellen on my lap, grabbing hold of it! What fun memories this thing will bring though. I brought it camping with us in Glacier; I spend my quiet time in the evenings knitting it; and my littlest one nestled on my lap "helping"; also the other two kiddoes like to get out my other knitting needles and a ball of yarn, and pretend to knit right along with me!
Finished dimensions are supposed to be 29"x29" but I am not sure. However, I think it will be used as a floor pillow for sitting on and playing with for years to come... Ayla has already requested one for herself... maybe.

Other projects I am looking forward to soon:
~a skirt for myself
~towel hoodies for all the kids out of either terry cloth or beach towels... haven't decided.
~towel dress for myself (found here)
~knitted swimsuit (!) for Ayla here.
~knitted toys for Kellen
~matching shirts from Oliver + S for the boys
~WAY too many things to list!!!!

Truthful Tuesday

I can honestly say I am a terrible housekeeper! I find that cleaning messes with my creative time (or naptime!)
Tyler however is a clean freak. So he does his best. But this is what it looks like here while he is away at work. Plus, we have water under the house so that is being pumped out at the moment; adding to the mess.
Maybe I will try harder. Maybe not.
Happy Tuesday.

Next Tuesday I will bring you a picture of the messiest spot in our house.

Thanks to Tyler

Thanks to Tyler for so many things.
Colton. Ayla. Kellen. First (second and third) and foremost!
For being a thoughtful, kind and caring husband; father; friend.
Always up for playing with the kids, or taking the baby.
Cooking dinner when I need him to.
Doing all the yardwork.
Doing a heck of a lot more of the housework than he probably should.
Putting up with my craziness needed to create something or another.

This post was meant for Father's Day, but alas, it was not.
We had a great day; a failed attempt at the beach, settling for the lake. Ice cream sandwiches for lunch; some sprinkler time; and wonderful steak & fries for dinner.

Thanks for everything Tyler. We love you to the moon and beyond. Always.

Ten Things

Once again, I was inspired by Amanda at Soulemama to do this again:: Ten Things I love Right Now Thursdays. I have been having a hard time blogging lately ( not because of un-useful material... just busy!) so I have decided to have certain days devoted to a certain thing::

Tuesdays:: Truthful Tuesdays (inspired by Nicole, who was inspired by Suzy
Wednesdays:: WIP (works in progress)
Thursday:: Ten things
Fridays:: Moment (also inspired by Soulemama)

So here goes::

1. This 16 lb pudg-ster! Look at those cheeks!
2. These flowers we planted last fall. Love the flower in a flower.3. What cute grassheads! They are on the kitchen sink, and make me smile when I do dishes.4. Long talks with a one of two great mother-in-laws.
5. Knitting with a certain rascal on my lap. Makes it a little more difficult, but fun memories! (More on this project next Wednesday)6. Anticipation of change. Really just finding out our next duty station; it has been on my mind lately, but we won't know until maybe September!
7. Drinking out of mason jars. Can't really explain it. Oh, and using breast pads that didn't work for coasters!8. These two and their constant play/fight or love/hate routine.9. This dress I just finished for Ayla! I love Oliver + S patterns... always turn out so cute!10. Baking with the kids.Ah! I live such a great life!

Camping in Glacier at Sprague Creek

We had a fantastic time camping this last weekend (well, some issues; more on that later!). Seeing that the weather was going to be taking a turn for the better, we decided to head up to Glacier for our second camping trip. We packed up the car and headed out. Before we got to the campsite, Colton said "I have to pee!"
And 2 seconds later, he did. In his car seat! So we had that airing out at the campsite all weekend.
We drove to the campground and picked out an awesome campsite. Then set out for some hiking. Despite my bum knee, we managed to hike a bit and take some great pictures.
We all slept well that night and woke up early (all except Colton, which is a precursor for what happened later, maybe). It took us a bit to get everyone ready for an expedition, and looking back, turned out for the better.
As we drove to the Trail of Cedars, we saw a MOOSE! Living here in the great state of Montana for the last three years, we had yet to see one, so this was a pretty momentous occasion! He wasn't as awkward and gangly as I thought he would be. He was rather majestic. He was in the same spot 2 hours later enjoying his camera time!
We found out from our Swiss neighbor (at the campground) that the Avalanche Lake Trail, which is near the trail we were on, had a visit from a Grizzly mama and her cubs! I think I would have peed my pants!
Back at our campsite, with an over abundance of aggressive flies and mosquitoes, we took off for one last hike. We ended up going about 3 miles!
At camp, we enjoyed a late dinner of delicious salmon (from the store!).
Colton decided it was bedtime right after dinner, which was about 8pm, so not too weird.
The other 2were asleep by 9, and Tyler and I sat by the fire, had beers while I knitted, and then Tyler headed to the lake for 15 minutes of fishing. Then to bed.
We were woken up in the middle of the night by Colton needing to go pee; again, not unusual. When they came back to the tent, back in bed, Colton whimpered and said his tummy didn't feel good and so Tyler got back out of bed with him ( I was feeding Kellen). And he didn't really say what he needed to do for a bit, and so I said, I think he has to throw up. Tyler was getting on his shoes, and then it happened. He threw up in the middle of the tent. Poor little guy! And to put icing on the cake, he all of a sudden said he had to poop, and a huge noise, and then another kind of mess! He was so embarrassed! We cleaned him up as best we could, put him back in bed, and he fell back asleep.
In the morning he was a bit pale, but said he wanted to stay out camping for the day instead of heading home right away. So we rode bikes, hung out with some great friends that visited for the morning, and ate lunch. We left right after lunch.
The trip home began with coughs coming from Ayla's seat. Not sick coughs, but coughs that have been known to be precursors to throwing up. And sure enough, we ended up pulling over no less than 4 times on the way home. Tyler cleaning the carseat a couple of those times, and Ayla exhausting her extra clothes situation. We finally made it home with a girl in her underwear sitting on a very stinky seat.
Needless to say, Tyler hosed down the whole back of the car. We are still doing laundry. And still cleaning up throw up every once in a while.
It really was a great camping trip though.
On a good note too, Colton was riding a 2-wheeled bike with only a little assistance from Tyler! I can't believe he will be four in less than a month!
